The Tata Sierra is back as a modern SUV with strong early demand. Tata Motors recorded more than 70,000 bookings within 24 hours of opening orders, while deliveries began in January 2026.
With a starting price of ₹11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Sierra is ready to shake up the Indian SUV market.
Production and Availability
Tata Motors knows that nobody likes to wait months for their new car. To avoid long waiting periods, the company is working on a “war footing” at its manufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat. Production has been increased significantly to ensure that customers get their cars as soon as possible.
Currently, Tata holds about 16-17% of the SUV market share. With the Sierra now part of Tata’s SUV lineup, the company aims to increase this to 20-25%. Fast delivery will be a key part of this strategy to keep customers happy and away from competitors.
Powerful Engine and AWD Technology
The new Sierra isn’t just about looks; it is packed with power. It comes with a new 1.5-liter Turbo Petrol engine that produces 158bhp power. For diesel lovers, there is also a 1.5-liter Diesel engine option.
For the first time in this segment, Tata is offering AWD (All-Wheel Drive) technology in the Sierra. This means the car is capable of handling rough roads and tough terrains easily. It is available with both manual and automatic (DCT) gearboxes.
Modern Interior with a Touch of Nostalgia
The most famous feature of the old Sierra was its rear glass windows (Alpine windows). Tata has kept that spirit alive but gave it a modern twist. Instead of curved glass, it now features a stylish flat glass accent that blends with a panoramic sunroof, making the cabin feel very open and airy.
Key Features Include:
- A triple-screen layout on the dashboard.
- A 12-speaker JBL sound system for music lovers.
- Level 2 ADAS for advanced safety on highways.
- Ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera.
Competition
At this price point, the Tata Sierra will directly compete with popular SUVs like the Mahindra Scorpio N and Mahindra BE 6. However, the mix of modern tech and emotional connection gives Sierra a unique advantage.
Summary
The Tata Sierra combines a familiar name with a technology-focused cabin, multiple powertrain choices and a strong SUV identity. Its early booking response also shows that the nameplate continues to carry considerable appeal, while increased production should help Tata manage customer waiting periods.
